PSE and the 2012 Alberta Budget, 'Investing in People'

The Redford government has introduced a deficit budget for 2012-13, featuring $1.3 billion in increased spending, but no tax hikes.  The Sustainability Fund will cover the deficit, expected to reach $886 million (which is down $432 million from the 2011-12 forecast).  According to the government’s projections, the provincial government should run a surplus next year, due to increased income tax revenue and strengthening bitumen royalties, as well as higher federal transfers.  A $5.2 billion surplus is forecast for 2014-15. read more
