Welcome to the official website for the University of Alberta's High School Model United Nations Conference 2012!

We invite you to join us for the 10th annual edition of the popular three-day simulation, which will take place February 23rd-25th, 2012. At the conference, students step into the roles of United Nations delegates from various countries and Non-Governmental-Organizations in deliberating on a wide variety of pressing international issues. Participants are given topics and research materials prior to the start of the simulation and are challenged to understand and accurately represent the foreign policy position of their chosen country or NGO throughout the committee proceedings. This role-play aids delegates in developing and practicing skills in research, organization, writing, debating, negotiation, cooperation, and compromise. HSMUN introduces students to the complexities of global problems, but also helps participants to discover that solutions may be reached through discussion and multilateral cooperation. Thus the participants are exposed both to the challenges and the potential of the United Nations. The conference is organized by a volunteer secretariat composed mainly of University of Alberta undergraduate students. We work in partnership with the Department of Political Science, and the Faculty of Arts.

Registration for HSMUN 2012 is now underway. The Earlybird registration deadline is 15 December 2011, at the cost of $60 per student. Registration thereafter will be accepted at a price of $65 per student. Country delegation are assigned on a rolling basis.

HSMUN is generously sponsered by The Rotary Club of Edmonton Riverview.
