Grade Conversion
Starting September 1, 2003, the grading system in UofA switches to Letter Grade.  When calculating GPA, 4.0 point scale is used.  Please note there is no regulation in UofA for converting percentage grades to letter grade.  I think each Department / Faculty has its own method of converting percentage grades to letter grade, so it's not published in UofA Calendar.

If this is true, our entrance class average is 3.9 out of 4.0!!!???

Legend

UofA Definition: A+ and A are different grades. The difference between A+ and A reflects the degree of excellence. By including the grade of A+ in the grading system, truly outstanding work can still be recognized at the course level and this grade will appear on transcripts. A+ and A have the same numeric value (4.0) when calculating a GPA or class/course mean.  Some schools use the 4.3 scale.  In that case, 4.3 is the same as 4.0 when calculating the GPA and as A+ in the letter grade ... more info
