After leading the Golden Bears football team to an upset win over the No. 8 ranked Manitoba Bisons, starting quarterback Brad Launhardt has been named the Sherlock Holmes Athlete of the Week.
The Bears starting pivot finished their 29-26 win with 275 passing yards and two touchdowns on 19-31 passing, including the game-winning TD strike with just six seconds left in regulation. Launhardt also added a game-high 117 rushing yards on ten carries, including 31 yards during the Bears 75-yard drive late in the fourth quarter.
Through three games, Launhardt sits second in Canada West with 835 passing yards and four touchdowns. His 190 rushing yards are the third most in the conference, and the most by any quarterback.
The upset win was the second-straight for the Golden Bears, who improved to 2-1 in conference play this season. Alberta earned a 18-17 road win over the No. 7 ranked Regina Rams in Week 2.
Alberta will look for their first three-game win streak since 2009 this weekend, when they host the 2-1 Saskatchewan Huskies at Foote Field on Saturday. Kickoff for the Week 4 clash is set for 1:00 p.m. MST.
