After a record-breaking performance at the 2020 Golden Bears Open, fourth-year Pandas sprinter Cassandra Grenke has been named the Sherlock Holmes Athlete of the Week.
Grenke set a new Pandas program record in the women's 60m hurdles, clocking in with a time of 8.38 seconds, which was 0.26 seconds faster than teammate Catharina Klutys, who finished the race in second.
The Kinesiology, Sport and Recreation student-athletes time also bested the previous Pandas record of 8.41 seconds, which was set by Alexa Hrycun in February, 2016 in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
Grenke's performance comes one week after she was named the Female Athlete of the Meet at the Sanderson Classic in Saskatoon, where she earned a pair of medals. Grenke is currently ranked No. 1 in U SPORTS in the 60m hurdles.
The Bears and Pandas will be back in action at home on February 7th and 8th, when they host the Pandas Open at the Universiade Pavilion.
