The Golden Bears and Pandas U21 junior curling teams added to the program's already loaded trophy cabinet this past weekend, as both teams captured the Alberta Junior Curling titles in Lloydminster.

It marks the ninth consecutive year one of the Alberta junior programs has captured the provincial title, but the first time in program history that both the Bears and Pandas have won in the same year.

Both the Bears and Pandas will now represent Alberta at the 2020 Canadian Junior Championship, which runs January 18th to 26th in Langley, BC.

The Pandas finished the round robin in second with a 5-2 record, advancing to the provincial final thanks to a 8-4 win in the semifinal. The Pandas, consisting of Abby Marks (skip), Catherine Clifford (third), Paige Papley (second), Jamie Scott (lead), Doug Marks (coach), then defeated the Cinnamon rink 6-4 in the final.

The Pandas will be looking for a third Canadian Junior title in four years, with Selena Sturmay leading the Pandas to a 2019 title, and Kristen Streifel doing the same in 2017.

The Bears, Ryan Jacques (skip), Desmond Young (third), Andrew Gittis (second), Gabe Dyck (lead), Skip Wilson (coach), went a perfect 7-0 in round robin play, before winning the Alberta final 6-5.

The Golden Bears and Pandas will host the 2020 Canada West Championship, January 31st to February 2nd at Saville Community Sports Centre.
