Nearly 80 up-and-coming University of Alberta graduate students and postdoctoral scholars are getting a federal funding boost to build the research and professional skills they’ll need to succeed in the next stage of their careers.

The U of A recipients are receiving scholarships and fellowships through the Canada Research Training Awards Suite, which brings together award programs from the three federal research funding agencies with the common goal of supporting the next generation of innovators.

“These talented graduate students and postdoctoral scholars have shown exceptional promise in fields across the natural and life sciences, health sciences and engineering,” says Tracy Raivio, vice-provost and dean of the Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies. “These awards will help them fully realize their potential as future leaders in seeking solutions to the world’s most pressing challenges.”

The Canada Research Training Awards Suite includes three levels of awards: one-year master’s scholarships worth $27,000, three-year doctoral scholarships valued at $40,000 per year, and two-year postdoctoral awards of $70,000 per year.
