The University of Alberta is celebrating 2017 Vanier scholars, a Distinguished Scholar award, a national championship for Pandas Tennis, and more! So, congratulations to the following:

· Yuli Berlin-Broner, Graduate Student, School of Dentistry, Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry - awarded the Motyl Graduate Studentship in Cardiac Sciences for research on oral health and cardiovascular disease

· Jens Boos, Graduate Student, Department of Physics, Faculty of Science - named a 2017 Vanier scholar

· Janine Brodie, Distinguished University Professor and CRC in Political Economy and Social Governance, Department of Political Science, Faculty of Arts - named an AWA Academic Woman of the Year

· Jillian Buriak, Professor, Department of Chemistry, Faculty of Science - received the 2017 E.W.R. Steacie Award from the Chemical Institute of Canada

· Karim Damji, Professor and Chair, Department of Ophthalmology, Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry - received the University of British Columbia's 2017 Global Citizenship Alumni Award

· André Grace, Professor, Department of Educational Psychology, Faculty of Education - received the 2017 Alberta Community Justice Award for the Comprehensive Health Education Workers project

· Daniela Migliarese Isaac, Resident, Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry - won the best clinical paper at the 2017 Postgraduate Medical Publication Prize from the University of Alberta Medical Staff Society

· Danika Jorgensen-Skakum, Graduate Student, Department of Women's and Gender Studies, Faculty of Arts - received the AWA Bente Roed Graduate Student Award

· Lien Luong, Assistant Professor, Department of Biological Sciences, Faculty of Science - named Instructor of the Month in the Faculty of Science

· Andrew Mason, Professor, Department of Medicine, Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry - named the 2017 Primary Biliary Cholangitis Society of Canada's Outstanding Researcher

· Royden Mills, Instructor, Department of Art & Design, Faculty of Arts - had his sculpture, Resonant ProgressionResonant Progression, added to Edmonton's Public Art Collection and installed in Terwillegar Park

· Albert Remus Rosana, Graduate Student, Department of Chemistry, Faculty of Science - named a 2017 Vanier scholar

· Nathan Rowe, Golden Bears Football - named Athlete of the Week

· Malinda Smith, Professor, Department of Political Science, Faculty of Arts - named the ISA-Canada's Distinguished Scholar for 2018/2019

· Andree Vincent, Student, Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry - won the first ever Edmonton CNE Innovation Garage Competition

· Denis Vincent, Assistant Clinical Professor, Department of Family Medicine, Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry - won the first ever Edmonton CNE Innovation Garage Competition

· Jon Veinot, Associate Professor, Department of Chemistry, Faculty of Science - received the 2017 Award for Research Excellence in Materials Chemistry from the Chemical Institute of Canada

· Dilini Vethanayagam, Associate Professor, Department of Medicine, Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry - named an AWA Academic Woman of the Year

· Pandas Tennis - won the 2017 Canadian University Tennis Championship in Toronto

· Bears Tennis - won the bronze medal at the 2017 Canadian University Tennis Championship

· School of Dentistry - launched the new Periodontology Graduate program

Congratulations to TEC Edmonton on the announcement of their new health-tech business incubator!

The U of A also celebrated the launch of a new brand journalism site, folio.

Lastly, the University of Alberta earned a STARS Gold rating from the Association for the Advancement for Sustainability in Higher Education - well done!
