This week, the University of Alberta is celebrating a Governor General's History Award, Top 40 Under 40 recipients, new CRCs, and more! So, congratulations to the following:

  • Lauren Albrecht, PhD Candidate, Department of Pediatrics, Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry - named to Avenue Magazine's 2017 Top 40 Under 40 list
  • Isabel Altamirano-Jimenez, Associate Professor, Department of Political Science, Faculty of Arts - named Canada Research Chair in Comparative Indigenous Feminist Studies
  • Marina Banister, President, Students' Union - named to Avenue Magazine's 2017 Top 40 Under 40 list
  • Amit Bhavsar, Assistant Professor, Department of Medical Microbiology & Immunology, Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry - named Canada Research Chair in Functional Genomic Medicine
  • Sarah Carter, Professor and Henry Marshall Tory Chair, Department of History and Classics, Faculties of Arts and Native Studies - received the Governor General's History Award for Scholarly Research: the Sir John A. Macdonald Award for her book, Imperial Plots: Women, Land, and the Spadework of British Colonialism on the Canadian Prairies
  • Kirsten Chamberlin, Pandas Hockey - named Athlete of the Week
  • Janet Elliott, Professor and CRC (Thermodynamics), Department of Chemical and Materials Engineering, faculty of Engineering - had her research featured in a special edition of the Journal of Physical Chemistry to commemorate Marie Curie's 150th birthday
  • Michael Gaenzle, Professor, Department of Agricultural, Food & Nutritional Science, Faculty of Agricultural, Life & Environmental Sciences - named Canada Research Chair in Food Microbiology and Probiotics

  • Kathy Milanowski, Student, Faculty of Arts - won Historica Canada's national video contest with her entry, Our Canadian People
  • Carla Prado, Assistant Professor and Campus Alberta Innovates Program Chair, Department of Agricultural Food and Nutritional Science, Faculty of Agricultural, Life and Environmental Sciences - named to Avenue Magazine's 2017 Top 40 Under 40 list
