University of Alberta Statement on the Kamloops Residential School Burial Site

Message from President Bill Flanagan on the Kamloops Residential School Burial Site.

With profound sadness, we learned of the unearthing of the remains of 215 children buried at the site of the former Kamloops Indian Residential School. Once again, this news forces us to acknowledge the legacy and honour the victims of the Indian Residential School system. As the University of Alberta community continues to strive toward reconciliation, we must face these truths and renew our commitment to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s Calls to Action.

I encourage you to read the letter to the community from Dr. Florence Glanfield, Vice-Provost (Indigenous Programming and Research).
