Upgrading of Canadian Bitumen and Heavy Oil Resources

Scope:

The availability of improved upgrading technology will have a major impact on the Canadian oilsands industry, by aiding the shipment of produced heavy oil and enhancing the quality of the final products. The Centre for Oilsand Innovation and the Upgrading Research Group, centered at the University of Alberta, is making a crucial contribution to developing this technology, through research programs and the preparation of knowledgeable graduates for industry. Research opportunities range from advanced upgrading processes to development of catalysts uniquely tailored for bitumen-derived feeds.
