Dr. Guy Thomson's lecture will briefly
examine significant historical events of Zimbabwe which facilitate
our understanding as to why Zimbabwe faces its current social, political
and economic crisis as well as the implications of these realities
for human rights in the state.

Law. Prof. Harrington has an impressive background in the area of
international law and will be teaching Public International Law in

Student Legal Services of Edmonton
will be presenting a 2 hour presentation on Immigration Law. Joe Chivers
of Brownlee LLP will be conducting the information session, which is
focused on immigration to Canada and the requirements for each class
of immigrant, specifically the business, family, and professional classes.
The seminar is designed to give those interested in becoming a permanent
resident a general overview of what they will need to do so. Those
interested in this area of law will become informed as to some of the
issues associated with the field.

Canadian Council
on International Law Conference

This year's CCIL Conference will address
the theme of Legitimacy and Accountability in International Law. The
chairs, Don McRae and John Hannford, are organizing a wide-ranging
programme which will include Professor Thomas Franck of the New York
University School of Law as keynote speaker, the annual Women in International
Law Interest Group Breakfast and special panel on Human Trafficking,
an Open Forum with senior members of Canada's Department of Foreign
Affairs and a banquet where the invited speaker is Canada's Minister
of Justice Irwin Cotler. Under the broad rubric of legitimacy and accountability,
the programmed will address such international legal issues as international
environmental law, trade and investment law, the use of force and humanitarian
law, and international procedure. As in past years, the schedule will
also include a Student Job Fair and Forum!

Visiting Lecturship
in Human Rights

This year's lecture will be delivered
by Shirin Ebadi, the Iranian lawyer and human rights activist who won
the Nobel Peace Prize in 2003. Amoung her many achievements was her
appointment as one of the first female judges in Iran, until she was
forced to resign after the 1979 revolution. She has actively defended
freedom of speech in Iran. She is heavily involved in promoting the
rights of women and children, especially through her involvement in
the Reformed Islam Movement.
