The theme of this year's International Week is: More than Words: Realizing Human Rights. With speakers, workshops, displays and performing and visual arts, this event is a must see every year! International Week is the largest annual educational extracurricular event on campus. The goal of this event is to cultivate greater awareness within our campus and broader community about global issues ranging from human rights to the environment to peace and human security.

The Human Right to Water

In collaboration with the University of Alberta's International Week, the International Law Society is hosting a speakers event titled "The Human Right to Water". Three distinguished speakers will be joining us for the event:

Dr. Walter Lichem: The former Austrian Ambassador to Canada who is currently a visiting professor in the Department of Political Science at the University of Alberta

Ms. Merrell-Ann Phare: The Executive Director and Legal Counsel for the Centre of Indigenous Environmental Resources (CIER)

Dr. Kenichi Matsui: An Aboriginal Water Law Expert

Exploring your International Options at the UofA
Discussion with Prof. Joanna Harrington - Scholar-in-Residence Elect, United Nations, Human Rights and Economic Law Division, Dept. Foreign Affairs March 30, 2006

Prof. Harrington will be discussing how you can be preparing for a career in international law. She will also be touching on course offerings at the UofA and exciting international opportunities available through academic exchange programs. Come and learn how to begin building your international CV! A Q&A period will follow the discussion.
