Policy Research Assistant
@China Institute (University of Alberta), Canada’s premier research think tank
(1-year contract with the possibility of extension, hybrid work with select in office days)
Primary Responsibilities:
- Researches and writes policy briefs and briefing materials
- Copyedits and proofreads Institute’s reports, publications and proposals
- Assists in content development of Institute’s research plans, project proposals and training programs; participates in team research project as appropriate
- Collects information and assists with preparation of media interviews
- Produces daily news brief on China
- Researches and prepares slides for presentations, including graphics and notes
- Prepares graphics and metrics (charts, diagrams, tables, maps) for knowledge dissemination activities including the Institute’s website
- Verifies transaction information for the China-Canada Investment Tracker
- Drafts Investment Tracker Quarterly Updates and investment blog pieces
- Provides research support for the Institute’s Director and Deputy Director
- Drafts research related letters and correspondences
- Supports Institute’s conferences and events as required
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
- Minimum Bachelor degree in Political Science, Policy Studies, International Relations or Economics, minimum GPA 3.3
- Outstanding writing skills
- Excellent analytical and communication skills
- Proven editing and proofreading abilities with keen attention to detail
- Demonstrated quantitative and qualitative research capacity
- Familiarity with policy research and policy development
- Knowledge of Asian politics and economy would be an asset but not required
- High proficiency with MS Office applications (Word, Excel and PowerPoint)
- Ability to work on multiple projects under tight deadlines
- Ability to work independently and effectively as a member of the team
