Policy Research Assistant

The China Institute at the University of Alberta, Canada’s premier research think tank

(1-year contract with the possibility of extension, hybrid work with select in office days)

 

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Researches and writes policy briefs and briefing materials
  • Copyedits and proofreads Institute’s reports, publications and proposals
  • Participates in content development of Institute’s research plans, project proposals and training programs
  • Writes Investment Tracker and Canada-China Trade Quarterly Updates
  • Verifies transaction information for the China-Canada Investment Tracker
  • Provides research support for the Institute’s Director
  • Supports Institute’s conferences and events as required
  • Other duties as assigned

 

Qualifications:

  • Preference given to candidates holding a Master’s degree in Policy Studies, Political Science, International
    Relations, Economics, or East Asian Studies. Masters in Anthropology, Sociology and related disciplines may also be considered if there is a significant China component to their studies. Minimum requirement: Bachelor’s degree with GPA of 3.5 or above
  • Familiarity and demonstrated experience in policy research and policy development
  • Outstanding writing skills
  • Excellent analytical and communication skills
  • Proven editing and proofreading abilities with keen attention to detail
  • Demonstrated quantitative and qualitative research capacity
  • High proficiency with MS Office applications (Word, Excel and PowerPoint)
  • Ability to work on multiple projects under tight deadlines
  • Ability to work independently and effectively as a team member
