Academic Workshop: The "Xi Jinping Effect" - in China and Beyond
16 July 2020
Xi Jinping is the most powerful Chinese leader since Mao Zedong. In less than a decade, Xi has amassed unchallenged authority within the ruling Chinese Communist Party and led transformations in China’s domestic politics and foreign relations. In a two-day virtual workshop hosted by the China Institute, an international cohort of scholars will present new research on “Xi Jinping’s effect” in China and beyond, with expert commentary to follow. Topics include: Xi Jinping's leadership in historical perspective; Xi’s “effect” on propaganda, nationalism, local government, civil society, and foreign relations.
