Welcome to Dr. Lazar Atanackovic

Artificial Intelligence and Computational Systems Biology expert, Dr. Lazar Atanackovic, officially joined the University of Alberta community. Appointed as Assistant Professor in the Departments of Electrical & Computer Engineering and Biochemistry.

The Department of Biochemistry is excited to welcome Artificial Intelligence and Computational Systems Biology expert Dr. Lazar Atanackovic to the team! His appointment as Assistant Professor follows a very successful postdoctoral fellowship at the Broad Institute of MIT & Harvard. 

Now an expert in his field, Dr. Atanackovic got his start in the field of machine learning  at the University of Toronto, where he completed his Ph.D in 2025. His PhD was preceded by a M.A.Sc. at the University of British Columbia in 2020.

Dr. Atanackovic is starting his career at the University of Alberta in a strong position. He is jointly appointed to the Departments of Electrical & Computer Engineering and Biochemistry as an Assistant Professor and also holds an Adjunct Professorship in the Department of Computing Science and has been named a Research Fellow at the Alberta Machine Intelligence Institute (Amii).
