Are you ready? The team promotes camper growth, learning, and capacity-building - previous volunteers described their camp experience as both joyful and exhausting! An ideal candidate is a motivated and experienced leader who has the ability to multitask and pitch in, while also remaining aware and able to prioritize their own needs and stay healthy during Camp!

Training: We provide comprehensive pre-camp training for skill development, getting to know each other, and camp operation. Training will be in-person at the University of Alberta early July, 2026.
Community Guidelines: All volunteers commit to following and upholding Camp fYrefly Community Guidelines. Any updates or site-specific additions will be included in the registration information.
Diversity: We are committed to diversity and representation at Camp. Because these identities are often underrepresented, we especially welcome applications from queer people of colour, Two-Spirit and/or Indigenous people, people with disabilities, and trans-feminine people.
Registration: Applicants who are selected will be emailed a detailed registration package with information on travel, meals, accommodation, and a list of health, dietary, legal, media consent, and Police Information Check (including Vulnerable Sector) requirements.
Dates / Timelines: Application due dates vary by position. We don’t want to miss you, so please double check!Join Us Next Time: We love reading the applications, and are often overwhelmed by the commitment, diversity, and experience and skill level of our applicants. If you are not selected or are unavailable for the Camp dates, we encourage you to apply again next year.

Role Description
The Health Team (HT) supports the health and wellbeing of participants at Camp fYrefly. Volunteers are available to help campers navigate challenges and to direct them to relevant resources in their local community.
We’re looking for people who have experience providing mental or physical healthcare, including social workers, psychologists, counsellors, youth support workers, nurses, physicians, and other health professionals. In addition, it’s important our team members have experience with the 2SLGBTQ+ community, and ideally also supporting young people.
Health Team Volunteer
Working with the Camp Coordinator and the HT Lead, HT volunteers will respond and provide support for campers. Other requirements include:
- In Person - Joining on location for the full duration of Camp, 8-12 hours of training, and additional volunteer hours for planning and debrief
- Provide First Aid, assist with med delivery (if needed), consult.
- Following and ensuring compliance with Community Guidelines
- Documenting and reporting incidents; referrals to outside services
- General labour when in-person (e.g., set-up, cleaning and maintenance of camp space)
Optional Honourarium HT volunteers are eligible to receive an optional honoraria. More information will be included in the registration package. Applications are reviewed by Camp staff; all applicants will be either invited to an interview or notified they have not been selected.

Artist-in-Residence Application

Role Description
We’re looking for either emerging or established artists who have experience working with youth, are interested in and open to using alternative media (both in art and in program delivery), and demonstrated leadership experience.
The Artist in Residence (AIR) will work with our fYrefly team to deliver a range of art-based content for Camp fYrefly participants. The AIR will have demonstrated a commitment to innovation, exploration, community outreach, and the public understanding of 2SLGBTQ+ experiences and identities.
Working with the Camp Coordinator, the AIR will coordinate the development and execution of arts-based programming for Camp fYrefly. Other Requirements include:
- Approximately 15 hours prep time (includes planning meetings and mandatory team training) as well as joining on location for the full duration of Camp and debrief
- Coordinating a youth showcase at Camp
- Following and ensuring compliance with Community Guidelines
Optional Honouraria: The AIR will receive an optional honouraria. More information will be included in the registration package.

Role Description
Youth Leaders (YLs) are group (pod) leaders and the primary point of contact for campers. YLs guide the pod through activities, workshops, free-time and transition times, and help make decisions for their group. They build skills in mentorship, communication, and working with youth. Other requirements include:
- Between the ages of 18 - 24 on July 27, 2026
- Attend mandatory in-person training (Dates TBD, weekend in early July)
- Attend Camp
- Follow and ensure compliance with Community Guidelines
- Document and reporting incidents (training provided); Health Team referrals
- Generally helping out (e.g., set-up, cleaning and maintenance of camp space)
Optional Honourarium: Youth Leaders are eligible to receive an optional honouraria. More information will be included in the registration package.
Interviews: After applications are reviewed by Camp staff, all applicants will be either invited to an interview or notified they have not been selected.

Role Description
Adult Volunteers (AVs) serve as intergenerational role models and resources for both Youth Leaders and Campers. AVs provide guidance at group (pod) meetings, meals, special events, workshops, and free time. Many AVs also run programming and workshops of their own, or lead activities during free-time. They build skills in mentorship, communication, and working with youth. Other requirements include:
- 25 years or older by the start of Camp (July 27, 2026)
- Attend mandatory virtual and in-person training (Dates TBD, weekend in early July)
- Attend Camp
- Follow and ensure compliance with Community Guidelines
- Document and report incidents (training provided); Health Team referrals
- Generally helping out when in-person (e.g., set-up, cleaning and maintenance of camp space)
Optional Honourarium: Adult Volunteers are eligible to receive an honouraria. More information will be included in the registration package.
