Overview

This three-week, faculty-led program focused on better understanding how diverse communities have historically and continue to use street art to make change.

We will make art with artists, but *NO previous art making experience is needed* This is a class that sees art making as belonging to all.
Explore the cultural, historic, and social aspects of Berlin learning different ways to think about responsibility to community and citizenship.
We will visit many communities in Berlin, learning from local artists. There will be many opportunities built into our class time to explore different neighbourhoods and learn from the street up about the power of collective action.
Develop skills and tools for collaboration across cultures as we work with a global artist community.
Meet cool people doing amazing things and let that inspire us to come back with ideas and hope for our own worldbuilding.
Berlin is a rich and dynamic city with an incredible history and exciting future! You will have time to explore many cafes, museums, galleries, and neighborhoods outside of class time

Open to: All Faculties

Level: Undergraduate / Graduate

GPA: Minimum cumulative GPA of at least 2.5 in the terms with your 24 most recently completed credits, faculty-specific requirements or partner university requirements, whichever is highest

Fees & Costs

$250 application fee (paid only after acceptance)
$1462 program fee; 2027 program fee TBD, which includes course participation costs (museum entrance fees, workshops, supplies and materials)
Tuition for CSL 370 (*3) or WGS 498 (*3) or GSJ 550 (*3) and mandatory non-instructional fees
Return airfare to and from Berlin
Accommodation for the duration of the course
Medical/travel insurance
Money for meals and personal expenses

Language of Instruction: English

This course is cross-listed. It is important to note that CSL 370 is a credit/non-credit course and grades will not be assigned. WGS 498 and GSJ 550 are both graded courses. Be sure to register in the course that best works for your goals. All courses will have the same assignments and readings.

All listings of this course can be used towards both the Certificate in Community Service-Learning and the Certificate in International Learning as well as the WGS major and minor. There is a prerequisite of CSL 100 or instructor approval.
