PLEASE NOTE: This exchange program has 2 streams, a general stream and a stream dedicated specifically for Indigenous (i.e., First Nations, Métis, and Inuit) students.
- If you identify as Indigenous to Canada, please select the Indigenous exchange stream when applying. If you do not, please select the general exchange stream.
- The Indigenous stream is designed to support Indigenous cultural learning and connection. Participants will have opportunities to engage with Māori communities in Aotearoa New Zealand, learning from local knowledge keepers and taking part in cultural activities that highlight shared values, histories, and Indigenous worldviews.

A cumulative 3.0 GPA is required for this exchange.

Course Information

Language of Instruction: English

Field of Study: This exchange is best for students wanting to study in ALES, Arts, Business, Education, Engineering, KSR, Law, Native Studies, and/or Science subject areas

Exchange students cannot take Medicine, Dentistry, Psychiatry, Physiotherapy, Pharmacology, Pharmacy and any other clinical courses.

Some Otago courses, such as MBA, Wildlife Management and Master of Science Communication, are restricted in admissions.

PLEASE NOTE: The University of Otago encourages students participating in the Indigenous exchange stream to consider selecting at least one paper (i.e., course) offered through Te Tumu, The School of Māori, Pacific and Indigenous Studies. These papers/courses provide meaningful opportunites to learn about the Māori worldviews, cultural knowledge, and customary practicies.
