Book Launch: Postal Censorship, Surveillance, Resistance — Post-event
7 October 2026
On October 2 the Kule Folklore Centre, in collaboration with the Canadian Institute of Ukrainian Studies, hosted an event dedicated to the launch of a collected volume about postal censorship in the Soviet Union. Co-editors Jelena Pogosjan and Natalia Khanenko-Friesen, as well as contributors Jars Balan and Colin Neufeldt, had a fruitful discussion on the topic, with Oleksandr Pankieiev moderating.
The serious theme of censorship and loss of connection brought up deep emotions both among the speakers and the audience members, resulting in several thorny questions being discussed. Nevertheless, there was a welcome free and open exchange of a variety of thoughts and expressions during the event. Indeed, the general consensus was that today we have the privilege of speaking up for our ancestors, so let us use this privilege wisely.
Thank you to everyone who attended the book launch event, and congratulations to all the contributors and editors!
