This climate justice research initiative is a response to community demand to continue embodied research-creation methods of walking, deep listening, and community dialogue that began as part of a Just Powers SSHRC Connection Grant (2024-2025) called Walking the Talk: Climate Moves.

This new project will combine those methods with scientific climate modelling and storytelling used on another Just Powers project, Earth Fortunes (2019-2024), that created compelling augmented reality (AR) visual-textual animations of global Shared Socioeconomic Pathways. Merging the interdisciplinary methods and expertise of members of those two teams, this research project will mobilize relational, embodied and land-based research methods as a means to collect local climate change data and co-design locally-specific climate models, narratives, and AR/VR animations for a range of Shared Socioeconomic Pathways. “Walking the SSPs” explores how to take climate action and create climate policy, in a good way, in Edmonton and surrounding areas, on Treaty Six and Eight, and eventually, across Canada during the SSHRC PG.
