It will take up to 2 business days to receive a response from library staff. Please see eligibility and terms of use below.

  • Researchers from the Edmonton community who are not affiliated with the University of Alberta may request access in order to make use of University of Alberta Library collections and services for the purposes of research and life-long learning.
  • If you are an Academic Visitor affiliated with the University of Alberta, please speak with your host department about building access.

Terms of use

  • Intended Use: Access is strictly to consult, borrow, or access library collections for research purposes during the evening (6-9pm Mon-Thurs) and weekend (10am-5pm).
  • Security: Researchers will not let anyone else into the building.
  • Security - Loss of Card: Researchers are entrusted with access to secure building locations. If a card is lost or stolen, Library staff must be notified immediately. Until such notification has been received, the card holder will be held responsible for all use of the card, whether or not such use is authorized by the card holder.
  • Responsibility to Return: The Access Card remains the property of the University of Alberta. The card must be returned to the library service desk where it was issued. Failure to return on time will result in a lost fee.
  • Renewal: Borrowing of the card will be noted in My Account. It is the Researcher’s responsibility to understand how the renewal cycle works. Researchers must contact library staff once renewal limits are reached to request to continue to borrow and use the card. Failure to renew on time will result in a lost fee.
  • Library Accounts and Digital Access: A registered Library account is required to use this service. Non-affiliated members must show valid Canadian photo ID for computer/Wi-Fi access (NOTE: Alumni may be able to continue to use their former student CCID. Regular use of your former student CCID is required to prevent it from expiring.)
  • Compliance: Researchers will follow all Library Policies and Community Expectations.
