Convocation Profile: Nathan Rosas Bailon

Nathan Rosas Bailon is convocating today, but we caught up with him to ask a few questions about his time as an Undergrad.

What program are you graduating from? 

Double major: Linguistics and Psychology 

What led you to choose your current area of study, and why the U of A for your studies? 

I have always been fascinated by the brain, human behavior, and the mechanics of language. Most of all, I want to help people, and mental health is an area I feel I am best suited to help people with. 

Tell us about your experience in your faculty. 

I have had an amazing time with professors and other students. Particularly in the Linguistics department. It’s a small knit community that feels like a family. Psychology is a bit bigger, but I have also made many close friends, particularly volunteering in a lab. 

What is one of your favourite memories from your time at U of A? 

It was in my German class with Crystal Sawatzky, going around and introducing myself to other classmates who ended up being some of my best friends.

Tell us about your favourite professor and/or class. 

In Linguistics, I had so many favorite classes and professors, but my favorite class was Heritage Languages with Dr. Lila Daskalaki. In Psychology, my favorite class was Social Psychology with Dr. Kyle Nash. 

What advice do you have for current and future students? 

Enjoy what you’re studying and work at your discipline’s skills until you become an expert. It will make everything easier. 

How do you plan on celebrating convocation? 

Spain and Japan! 

What's next after graduation? 

Work for a year and continue volunteering in the Nash Social Neuroscience Lab, then go into a Masters in Psychology.
