Digital Humanities student Eleanor Young to present at World Digital Preservation Day event

Digital Humanities and Library and Information Studies student Eleanor Young will be a keynote speaker for a virtual event, “The Medley Interlisp Project: Reviving a Historical Software System”, hosted by Pennsylvania State Libraries for World Digital Preservation Day (WDPD 2025) on November 6. 

Young’s talk covers her work with the Medley Interlisp Project, a software recovery initiative that's been working to make Medley Interlisp, a seminal software system developed throughout the 70s, 80s, and 90s, accessible again on modern computer systems. This year's WDPD theme is "Why Preserve?", and throughout the course of working to revive Medley, there's been much rumination on why working to revive historical computer systems is particularly important work to be doing in the first place, and what historical systems can teach us.
