Project Title: AbSat Support
Team/Student Name(s): AbSat
Venture/Project Description:
AlbertaSat is a group that designs, builds, tests, and operates small satellites called CubeSats. We’re working to build a network of passionate students engaged in aerospace and fulfill the need for Canadian aerospace talent. Our made-in-Alberta satellites carry scientific payloads that have been built to tackle issues that our members are truly passionate about, from space weather to wildfire analysis to snow and ice mapping. Our first spacecraft, Ex-Alta 1, was launched in 2017 and was quickly followed up with Ex-Alta 2, AuroraSat, and YukonSat in 2023. Now, we’re tackling new challenges with Ex-Alta 3 and a myriad of other space science and technology development projects. We believe that everyone deserves the opportunity to explore and contribute to the space industry, and Albertsat’s Educational Outreach program engages young minds in Alberta classrooms as well as the general public at a host of STEM events every year. We’re sharing a passion for globalizing access to space through giving public talks, creating open source designs, utilizing amateur radio, and continually developing outreach programs. #LiftOffAlberta
