Urologist Wins Prestigious European Imaging Award and Secures Major Research Grant

Dr. Adam Kinnaird has been recognized on the international stage for his groundbreaking work in prostate cancer diagnostics, earning the European Association of Urology (EAU) Imaging Vision Award for 2026. The award honours the most innovative imaging study published in urology over the past year, and Dr. Kinnaird’s OPTIMUM trial—published in JAMA—was selected as the top submission across all imaging domains.

In its official notification, the EAU Section of Urological Imaging praised the study, stating that his abstract, “Microultrasonography-Guided vs MRI-Guided Biopsy for Prostate Cancer Diagnosis: The OPTIMUM Randomized Clinical Trial,” was chosen as the most innovative imaging study of the year. The award was formally presented at the 41st Annual EAU Congress in London on March 14, 2026, during a joint session with the European Society of Urogenital Radiology (ESUR) and the European Association of Nuclear Medicine (EANM).

Adding to this milestone, Dr. Kinnaird has also secured a $570,000 LevMax-Health Tri-Agency Spring 2025 grant through Alberta Innovates. The funding will support MUSIC-Screen, a phase 3, multicenter, international, non-inferiority randomized clinical trial comparing high‑resolution micro-ultrasound with multiparametric MRI for prostate cancer screening.

Together, these achievements highlight Dr. Kinnaird’s growing impact on the future of prostate cancer detection and imaging innovation, positioning his team at the forefront of global urological research.
