The key theme of Dr. Liu's research is concerned with how surface and intermolecular forces affect the dispersion and agglomeration of high solid slurries in various industrial processes; such as froth flotation, filtration, dewatering, oil sands extraction, tailing treatment, as well as construction and building materials.
Chad began his career in China where he completed a MSc and PhD in Mineral Engineering at the China University of Mines. He came to Canada in 1993 to attend McGill University, Montreal, where he completed a second PhD in Mining, Metal and Materials Engineering in 1996.
Chad has a strong track record in the private sector, having worked for Teck-Cominco Research in Trail, BC, from 1996 to 1998, and USG, Chicago, from 1998 until 2009 when he moved to Edmonton to work with the University of Alberta. During his time with USG, Dr. Liu completed a MBA at Lake Forest Graduate School of Management, Chicago. He holds eight patents on commercial applications.
