The Sustainable Development Goals: For a Better World

I-Week 2019 focused on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The SDGs are 17 ambitious goals that aim to "eliminate extreme poverty, fight inequality and injustice, and fix climate change" by 2030. UAlberta professors and students, as well as community activists and global experts, convened for one week to educate, discuss and act on the SDGs.

Featured Keynotes:

Lila Abu-Lughod - Joseph L.Buttenwieser Professor of Social Science, Columbia University; author; and leader in debates about culture, gender, Islam and global feminist politics.

Catherine Odora-Hoppers - Scholar and policy specialist on international development; previous South African Research Chair in Development Education at the University of South Africa; and promoter of including Indigenous Knowledge Systems in education.

Amy Luers - Executive Director of Future Earth and expert in global environmental change, data, sustainability, climate policy, and science communication.

Hoda Katebi - Voice behind JooJoo Azad, a radical political fashion online publication; author; community organizer; international book club organizer.
