Exchange and Visiting Graduate Student Programs

Student exchange and visiting student programs at UAlberta can provide the opportunity to broaden our outlook and understanding, explore transnational inquiries and challenge us to discover new strengths and perspectives.

Exchange Programs with Partner Institutions and Other Universities

Exchange programs with partner institutions within Canada and around the world provide the opportunity for students to explore the domestic and international stages while completing their university education.

University of Alberta International has created a Go Abroad Program Finder tool to assist students in their abroad opportunities. Admission requirements vary greatly among departments.

Visiting students who are not part of an exchange, require a letter of permission from their home institution. Consult with appropriate department where relevant courses are offered.

Western Deans' Agreement-Western Canadian University Intercampus Exchange Program

Established in 1974, the Western Deans' Agreement is a formal exchange program between 17 participating institutions in Western Canada. Its primary purpose is the reciprocal enrichment of graduate programs throughout Western Canada.

See Section 5.12 of the Graduate Program Manual "Visiting Graduate Students on Formal Exchanges" and "Visiting Graduate Students Under the Western Deans" Agreement".
