Book an advising appointment with the International Services Centre through our online system

International students currently in Edmonton can meet with an International Student Advisor without an appointment on a drop-in, first-come, first-serve basis! Come to the International Services Centre (142 Telus Centre) from 10:30 am - 12:00 pm (except for Wednesday) and 1:30 - 3:30 pm, Monday to Friday, to take advantage of this opportunity.

International students not currently in Edmonton should make an appointment for online advising. If you are in Edmonton, please consider the drop-in option first to give students outside the city the priority for booking an online appointment.

Use the I-Advise Booking system for advising at the U of A International Services Centre.

How to Book an Appointment

How to Make an Appointment

    1. Follow the prompts and enter your CCID. Your CCID is the first part of your '@ualberta' email address.
    2. Select what you want to talk to the advisor about, such as health insurance, financial, personal issues, etc.
    3. What option should you choose for your appointment?
      1. Choose Immigration Issues, Personal Issues or Health if you are an international student needing advice. If you are an IVSP student, only choose this option if you need to talk to a regulated immigration advisor. Otherwise, choose, “I am a Visiting (IVSP) Student.”
      2. Choose Study Abroad or Internship Abroad if you are already a student at the University of Alberta and would like to talk to an advisor about going abroad to study or participate in an internship. If you are an incoming exchange student and would like to speak to an advisor, select this option as well.
      3. Choose Work or Career Advice if you are an international student and would like more information about working in Canada or need advice about starting a career.
    4. Pick a date and time that you want to meet the advisor. A text message and email are sent with a link for your online meeting by booking this appointment.

NOTE: If you make an appointment but cannot keep it, be sure to cancel it. You can do so using the link in your appointment confirmation email. Cancelling the appointment opens it up for another student if you cannot keep it

Who can speak to an advisor?

International Students

Each appointment provides you with enough time to address your issues. Do not book multiple appointments in a row. Please remember to cancel your appointment, even if it is 10 mins before. That way, another student can see an advisor at that time. If you repeatedly "no show" to your appointments, ISS will contact you about your future access to use this service.

Our team of licensed immigration consultants and student advisors work with students on supports for:

  • Study permits, work permits and visas
  • Emergency funding
  • Health care insurance
  • Information for SIN and income tax
  • Orientation and settlement

We also offer support and strategies for coping with:

  • Homesickness
  • Adjusting to a new culture
  • Building a community of friends
  • Intercultural communication

Please note: While advising on Permanent Residency (PR) matters falls outside the scope of International Student Services, the advisors are able to answer general PR questions and direct interested students to relevant resources.

Please Note:

Immigration advising is for U of A students only
Campus members with the status of Employee, Academic Visitor or Postdoctoral Fellow or Guest who have questions related to immigration (visas or work permits) should submit a ticket through the Staff Service Centre and include the word 'immigration' in the subject.

New international students studying at the University of Alberta for the first time should complete the Online Orientation before making an appointment to speak with an advisor. If you would like to speak with an advisor after completing online orientation, please make an appointment for the appropriate service. An advisor will be happy to speak with you.

Students with questions about immigration should review this website first. If you still need help, book an “Immigration Issues” appointment.
