Honours Abound at SLIS

SLIS celebrates four outstanding people: Professor Emeritus and instructor Dr. Alvin M. Schrader, SLIS alum Lorisia MacLeod, and SLIS professor Dr. Ali Shiri with doctoral student Sharon Farnel.

On October 1, 2018, Professor Emeritus, former SLIS Director, and current LIS 590 Practicum instructor Dr. Alvin M. Schrader was honoured by CULC with a motion to recognize his contributions to the profession and the value of intellectual freedom.

On November 7, 2018 ALA announced its newly minted list of ALA Emerging Leaders 2019. NorQuest College Instruction Librarian and SLIS alum Lorisia MacLeod (MLIS 2018) was named as one of 50 such leaders (with sponsorship from the American Indian Library Association).

On November 11, 2018 SLIS Associate Chair and Professor Dr. Ali Shiri and individual interdisciplinary doctoral student Sharon Farnel co-presented a paper entitled "Community-driven Knowledge Organization for Cultural Heritage Digital Libraries" (based on the Digital Library North project) at the ASIS&T SIG/Classification Research workshop, where they received a best paper award. SLIS extends warm congratulations to each and all recipients for these wonderful honours and the positives they represent to our field!
