Women in Scholarship, Engineering, Science, and Technology

WISEST: Women in Scholarship, Engineering, Science & Technology is a unit of the University of Alberta that has dedicated over 35 years to empowering women in the fields of science, engineering and technology.

Our Programs

Summer Research Program
Participants work as paid research assistants on a project in an area that is less-traditional for their gender for six weeks in July and August. The young women do research in the Faculties of Engineering and/or Science, and the young men are placed in the Faculty of Nursing and/or the Departments of Human Ecology and Nutrition.

Choices Conference
Grade 6 girls and their teachers to experience a day in science, engineering, and technology at the U of A.

SET Conference
Young women in grades 10-12 experience science that is than medicine and engineering that is more than bridge building.

Networks
Two networks — WISER and UA-WiSE — for undergraduates, graduates, and early-career female professionals in science, engineering and technology.

Volunteer
Variety of volunteer opportunities for students, past program participants, young professionals, and more.

Call for Supervisor Proposals: Want to share your passion for research and spark interest of science, engineering, or technology in today's youth? Consider becoming a Supervisor for the Summer Research Program!

Industry Placements: Would your organization like to host a WISEST Summer Research Program student this summer in an off-campus Industry Placement? WISEST is allowing for a few companies to request students in a pilot program.

Industry Tours: We are looking for companies willing to host Summer Research Program students for an Industry Tour in early August. This is a chance for the SRP students to gain exposure to innovative work done at your company and engage with professionals!
