Keynote Speaker

The HSMUN 2011 Secretariat is pleased to introduce Mr. Gordon Houlden as the keynote speaker for this year’s conference!

Mr. Gordon Houlden was born in Calgary, Alberta, where he completed a Bachelor of Arts at the University of Calgary. He completed graduate studies at Carleton University (Ottawa) and University Nacional (Lima, Peru). He has also studied at the Chinese University of Hong Kong and the National Defense College in Kingston.

Mr. Houlden served in the Canadian Foreign Service from 1976 to 2008, working in Ottawa, Havana, Hong Kong, Warsaw, Beijing and Taipei. He spent many years working on Canadian-Chinese Diplomatic Relations for the Canadian Foreign Service. In 2008, Mr. Houlden joined the University of Alberta as the Director of the China Institute and a Professor in the Department of Political Science.

Mr. Houlden will be speaking about his experiences in the Canadian Foreign Service at the Banquet on Friday, February 25th, 2011.
