The Ukrainian Language Education Centre (ULEC):

  • publishes a wide variety of Ukrainian language educational resource material for primary and secondary school teachers and students.
  • co-sponsors inservices to serve the professional development needs of Ukrainian-language teachers. As well, we house a large collection of resource materials (including a film, video and audio library) for the use of teachers.
  • is a proud founder of the Ukrainian Knowledge Internet Portal Consortium Association (UKiP-CA), developers of oomroom.ca, your online center of Ukrainian Language Learning educational resources for students, teachers, and parents.

Mandate

  1. To develop and produce learning resources for the Ukrainian Bilingual Program, and to initiate, coordinate or participate in the joint development of such learning resources with Alberta Education, school boards or other educational authorities.
  2. To develop and produce learning resources for other levels and types of Ukrainian language instruction and coordinate community involvement in the production of such learning resources.
  3. To facilitate, encourage and carry-out research on problems of bilingualism, Ukrainian English bilingualism in particular.
  4. To address the training and professional development needs of Ukrainian language teachers
  5. To maintain and develop the collection of Ukrainian language educational materials housed at the Canadian Institute of Ukrainian Studies.
