ALI at Future Energy Systems' Science Rendezvous
13 May 2025
On May 10, the ALI team took part in Future Energy Systems’ Science Rendezvous event at the Telus World of Science in Edmonton.
Science Rendezvous is part of a series of events that take place across the country. The events create interactive learning experiences for all age groups on topics such as science, technology, engineering, art, and math.
This year, the Alberta Land Institute focused on educating attendees about soil health using colourful characters and graphics.
The Institutes own Walter the Worm took attendees through educational materials about soil including the components function of healthy soils.
Then, attendees were invited to hunt for soil health components in our sensory bin full of “soil” (water beads). The soil also contained a variety of organisms often found in soils.
Upon completion of the sensory bin activity, attendees received a soil microbes colouring book and completion sticker.
The events 1,243 attendees enjoyed a variety of exciting activities and demonstrations throughout the day.
Thank you to our amazing staff and volunteers who put so much time and care into the activities. Thank you to Future Energy Systems for the opportunity to teach the innovators of the future about soil health!
