Our Research
CRINA is home to more than 170 world-class scientists and clinicians all dedicated to the same goal — to more effectively prevent, diagnose, and treat cancer. CRINA members are making discoveries that will ultimately lead to improved health for those affected by cancer. CRINA’s members work primarily within four streams of research.
Streams of Research
CRINA researchers are exploring ways to better detect and treat cancer, understand how cells become cancerous, and improve the lives of people living with the disease.

Understanding Cancer
Cancer usually begins with a single error or mutation introduced into the DNA of a cell. CRINA researchers are studying the fundamental origins of cancer and how it evolves from DNA mutation to disease.

Detecting Cancer
Changes in blood or tissue in the body, as well as enhanced imaging techniques, can reveal cancer at early stages, before symptoms appear. Detection research aims to discover new biomarkers and other biological warning signs, to enable earlier and less aggressive treatment.

Treating Cancer
Groundbreaking research is revealing how the immune system can be harnessed to fight cancer, and how treatments can more precisely target a person’s individual genetics and cancer type.

Living Better with Cancer
Researchers are studying how diet, exercise and rehabilitation can help manage symptoms, and improve patient well-being during cancer treatment and beyond.
