In November , 1987, Pat was diagnosed with breast cancer, a disease which she battled with courage and determination for the next five years. Pat never despaired of her condition, but rather confronted it head-on. She sought to help others deal with the emotional strain of cancer, as little as eight months before her passing (January 21, 1993), she enrolled in a training program for people who counsel cancer patients. Pat always tried to maintain a normal and happy life, regardless of what was thrown at her, even the debilitating effects which she experienced in her final months. Pat vowed to fight her cancer to the very end, and she was true to that vow.
