OISTAT recognizes Department of Drama Chair April Viczko

Join us in congratulating Department of Drama Chair April Viczko on receiving an award for Outstanding Achievement from the International Organisation of Scenographers Theatre Architects and Technicians (OISTAT). This award recognizes Professor Viczko's "exceptional contribution to the life of OISTAT beyond regular participation", specifically related to her work as Project Lead for World Stage Design 2022 (WSD2022).

World Stage Design (WSD) is the first and only designer-based exhibition to showcase and celebrate performance design from individual designers. Held every four years on a different continent. It was first held in Toronto, Canada in 2005 and since then has been to Seoul (South Korea), Cardiff (Wales), Taipei (Taiwan), Calgary (Canada) and Sharjah (UAE).

Viczko led an international team of designers, scholars, technicians and architects with Blackfoot knowledge keepers to create WSD2022. The event was held at the University of Calgary and co-presented with the Canadian Institute for Theatre Technology (CITT/ICTS) and OISTAT. The event exhibited 150 designers, had 600 attendees, and held 100 events (performances, exhibitions, symposia, talks, installations). The event was postponed from 2021 due to the COVID-19 Pandemic but the team persevered and the whole WSD was a resounding success.

Viczko received the award at World Stage Design 2025, held October 18-25 in Sharjah, United Arab Emirates. Brava, April!
