Tara Prusko
It takes a unique set of skills to anticipate the needs of others, but self-proclaimed “helper” Tara Prusko says it’s all about relationship-building.
As a newly appointed executive assistant in the College of Health Sciences, Tara brings extensive administrative experience from the non-profit sector and the City of Edmonton. In her role, she will provide senior-level administrative and operational support to the Offices of Education and Research and the college’s associate deans.
Get to know her and how her work contributes to the fabric of the college’s community.
How do you describe your work to those who don’t work in your field?
As an executive assistant, I support individuals in leadership roles with calendar management and scheduling, document creation and records control, and a variety of other administrative tasks. These tasks, while necessary, can take quite a bit of time. With my support, those in leadership roles are better able to focus their time and skills. My role also involves a great deal of relationship-building and connecting with those I support. When I start somewhere new, I make an effort to learn as much as I can to understand the complexity of the role(s) of those I support. This helps me to effectively build systems to anticipate their needs and provide responsive support in whatever capacity they require.
What excites you about your career?
I have always felt in my heart that I am a “helper.” I’ve been lucky to fill that role many times in my career thus far. What fills my bucket the most has been supporting leaders who are dedicating their strengths and expertise in roles that directly contribute to improving the lives of others. It’s part of what drew me to apply for a role within the College of Health Sciences, and since my first day, it’s been clear that I am surrounded by “helpers” in every role. It’s lovely.
What’s one thing you can’t live without?
My eight-year-old son, Max Lotus.
