College of Health Sciences researchers awarded more than $19 million in Spring 2026 CIHR Project Grants

Researchers from the University of Alberta’s College of Health Sciences have been awarded more than $19 million in funding through the Spring 2026 Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) Project Grant competition, underscoring the strength and breadth of health research across the College.
In the Spring 2026 competition, the University of Alberta submitted 146 applications, with 22 projects receiving full Project Grant funding. The University’s overall success rate of 15 per cent was above the national average in a highly competitive funding environment. Total funding for the University was $20,394,910.
Funded projects within the College of Health Sciences span a wide range of priority areas, including cancer, cardiovascular and metabolic health, neuroscience, infectious diseases and antimicrobial resistance, maternal and child health, Indigenous health, health equity, artificial intelligence, health services research, and the development of innovative therapies.
