June 2025: Changes to Privacy Legislation
Alberta’s Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FOIP) is being replaced by two new Acts:
The Information, Privacy and Records Management Office will provide additional information about these Acts as it becomes available, including when the Regulations have been published and when the Acts come into effect.
Current FOIP forms will be replaced to comply with ATIA and POPA requirements.
About
The Information, Privacy and Records Management Office (IPRMO) helps students, staff, and the public navigate privacy legislation and provides resources on how the university collects, uses, discloses and protects your information.
As of May 2025 the office is also responsible for the management and administration of university records in accordance with the Records Management Policy.
We can assist you with:
- Requests to access information
- Requests to correct personal information
- Best Practices in compliance with privacy legislation
Our team supports the effective implementation and administration of the requirements of relevant legislation - including the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FOIP) and other successor access and privacy laws. We coordinate the university's response to requests for access to information and assist in the preparedness of the university to the requirements of the Act. The office also provides assistance in relation to complying with the Health Information Act (HIA).
