ISSET Travel Award

 

Eligibility and Value:

  • Open to students currently enrolled in a degree program at the University of Alberta (U of A)
  • Awards will support travel for a graduate student at the U of A related to their research or training in Space Science, Space Exploration and/or Space Technology; undergraduate students can apply for support to participate in exceptional space-related research or training opportunities
  • Awards are to a maximum of $2000 CAD
  • Travel must occur before January 1, 2027

 

How to apply:

Eligible undergraduate or graduate students should email a single PDF to isset@ualberta.ca, and their supervisor(s), with the file name containing the student’s name and date of submission, with the following:

  1. Description of how the proposed travel would (a) advance the graduate work of the student and potential career prospects in space-related disciplines, (b) raise the visibility of space-related work at the U of A internally, and/or externally. (one page maximum)
  2. Budget justification, including documentation showing whether or not they have sought additional support from other sources including as appropriate, for example, but not limited to, GPS Travel Awards, Green and Gold Student Leadership and Professional Development Grant, or other available support, including contributions from their supervisor. (one page maximum)
  3. Curriculum vitae (two pages maximum)
  4. Unofficial transcripts of undergraduate or graduate schooling; if new to the U of A, include transcript(s) from prior institution(s)

 

Deadlines:

Applications are reviewed three times a year: January 15th, May 15th, and September 30th. Applicants are expected to apply to the deadline that is a minimum of 2 months before their expected travel.

 

Other Information:

Successful awardees are required to present in the annual Space Exploration Symposium, held each year in October on the U of A North Campus, and acknowledge the support of ISSET in presentations and publications that are supported through these funds.
