Study Modern Icelandic through an immersive language and culture program offered by the Árni Magnússon Institute for Icelandic Studies in partnership with the University of Iceland.
Develop your Icelandic language skills through intensive classroom instruction combined with practical language use.
Explore Icelandic history, literature, society, geology, and contemporary culture through lectures, museum visits, and educational excursions.

Eligibility Requirements

Open to: All Faculties

Level: Undergraduate

GPA: Minimum cumulative GPA of at least 2.5 in the terms with your 24 most recently completed credits, faculty-specific requirements or partner university requirements, whichever is highest.

Key Features:

Intensive language immersion with approximately 80 hours of instruction in Icelandic, including grammar, conversation, reading, and language practice.
Learn beyond the classroom through lectures on Icelandic society, history, literature, and geology, plus museum visits and cultural excursions across Iceland.
Small international learning environment with approximately 10–19 students per class, allowing for individualized instruction and meaningful interaction with classmates from around the world.

Housing

Participants may apply for institute-arranged accommodation in Reykjavík, typically shared housing with shared facilities. Accommodation is available for the duration of the program, subject to availability. Kitchen facilities are provided, but meal plans are not included.
