Capstone Project
The Capstone Project in Communications and Technology (COMM 900) is the culminating course in the MACT program. It brings together your learning across the program and connects it to your professional experience, communication practice, and future goals.
In COMM 900, you will develop a portfolio that demonstrates how your learning aligns with the MACT Program Learning Objectives. Rather than completing a single final paper or traditional research project, you will curate selected work from across the program and combine it with reflection, analysis, and synthesis.
Your portfolio invites you to consider larger questions about your learning:
- What have I learned in MACT?
- How have my skills, knowledge, and professional judgment developed?
- How does this learning support my professional, personal, or academic goals?
- How am I prepared to apply this learning beyond the program?
You may shape your portfolio around a research track, a professional development track, or a combination of both.
A research track portfolio may emphasize research design, inquiry, evidence, literature, analysis, and the development of a focused area of scholarly or applied interest.
A professional development track portfolio may emphasize communication leadership, workplace practice, strategic communication, digital media practice, ethics, and your evolving professional identity.
Many portfolios will combine both tracks, showing how research, theory, applied practice, and professional reflection inform one another.
The portfolio is not a collection of everything you have completed in the program. It is a carefully selected and organized account of your learning, supported by evidence. You will choose representative artifacts from coursework, projects, research activities, professional outputs, or related learning experiences, and explain what those artifacts demonstrate.
Through the portfolio, you will demonstrate your ability to:
- connect communication theory with professional practice
- use research, evidence, and reflection to support professional judgment
- analyze communication challenges in organizational, digital, and social contexts
- engage critically with emerging issues in communications and technology
- demonstrate growth across the MACT Program Learning Objectives
- articulate the value of your MACT learning for future professional, academic, or personal goals
You will build the portfolio throughout COMM 900 with structured guidance, peer interaction, and regular checkpoints. The course supports you as you move from planning and artifact selection to reflection, synthesis, completion, and presentation.
At the end of the program, you will present your portfolio as part of the culminating capstone experience. The completed portfolio should offer a coherent, reflective account of your MACT learning journey and demonstrate readiness for what comes next.
