A typical Spring Institute schedule
The Spring Institute is an intensive three-week residency held each May in Edmonton. It is a busy, engaging period of coursework, advising, community-building, and professional connections.
The Spring Institute usually begins on the first Monday in May and runs for three weeks. Students typically take one course in the morning and one course in the afternoon, with a break between classes.
A typical weekday schedule includes:
- Morning class: 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
- Midday break: time for lunch, advising sessions, information sessions, study, or informal conversations with classmates
- Afternoon class: 1:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Throughout the three weeks, you will also take part in social lunches, program events, advising opportunities, and informal gatherings with classmates, faculty, staff, and alumni. These activities are an important part of the MACT experience and help build the relationships that support students throughout the program's online components.
The third Monday of Spring Institute is usually a holiday Monday, with no classes scheduled. The final Friday is a half-day research symposium in the afternoon, followed by a reception.
Because the Spring Institute is an intensive residency, you should expect to devote most of your time during these three weeks to classes, preparation, group work, and program activities. You are encouraged to plan ahead with your employer and personal commitments so you can participate fully in the Spring Institute experience.
