Jenni Marshall

What is your official job title?  

I am the Team Lead, Medical Education, for the Departments of Anesthesiology and Pain Medicine, Critical Care Medicine, and Emergency Medicine. 

How would you describe your role to people who do not work in your field?

I lead the administrative team supporting the medical residency programs in Anesthesiology, Critical Care, and Emergency Medicine. While Program Directors focus on clinical teaching and curriculum, we handle the operational side of medical education for our staff, trainees, and faculty. This involves balancing workloads, managing budgets, and streamlining processes to keep our programs running smoothly and efficiently.

What is one thing you like about working in the FoMD?

It’s a true collaborative effort. I love working alongside such a diverse team, from our physicians and researchers to our fantastic administrative staff. Ultimately, the most rewarding part of my role is watching our learners progress through their training and seeing them thrive.

How long have you worked at the U of A?

I’ve been here since 2008, starting in Undergraduate Medical Education for General Surgery before spending seven years supporting residents in Emergency Medicine. I stepped into my Team Lead role last fall, and it’s been great watching our team grow and finding new ways to share knowledge across our departments.

What's something you like to do for fun?

Outside of work, I love exploring Edmonton with my family; whether we're trying a new restaurant, walking the river valley, or hitting the golf course. To unwind, you can usually find me working on a puzzle, baking sourdough, or out in my garden learning about Alberta native plants.

Is there anything else you'd like to share about yourself?

The Edmonton Folk Fest is easily my favourite time of year. The music, the crowd, and that view from the hill just can't be matched. I’ve been volunteering there since 2006 and still look forward to it every summer.
