Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC)
The Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC) is the federal research funding agency that promotes and supports research and research training in the humanities and social sciences.
The intended outcome of SSHRC-funded research must primarily be to add to our understanding and knowledge of individuals, groups and societies—what we think, how we live, and how we interact with each other and the world around us.
Researchers working in the area of CIHR Pillar 4 (social, cultural, environmental, and population health research) may have projects that are eligible for SSHRC funding. The Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry encourages researchers to explore these options.

Partnership Engage Grants
Short-term, timely support for partnered research activities that will inform decision-making at a single partner organization (public, private, or not-for-profit).
About
Small-scale, stakeholder-driven partnerships are designed to respond to immediate needs and time constraints in non-academic sectors. SSHRC welcomes applications involving Indigenous research and research-creation.

Partnership
Only one Canadian or international organization may be involved as a partner organization. No financial or in-kind contribution is required from the partner.
Connection Grants
Supports events and outreach activities for short-term, targeted knowledge mobilization, exchange, and engagement around research issues that matter to participants.
About
Funded events and outreach can be a first step toward more comprehensive and longer-term projects.

- Events: $10,000–$25,000 (1 year)
- Outreach: $10,000–$50,000 (1 year)
- Minimum request: $10,000
- Outreach only: amounts > $50,000 may be considered with strong justification
Matching Funds
Requires cash and/or in-kind match funding up to 50% of the funds requested from SSHRC. Example: request $10,000 → show at least $5,000 in matching funds.
Knowledge Synthesis Grants
Supports the synthesis of existing research knowledge and identifies knowledge gaps on the changing nature of security and conflict.

Knowledge Synthesis Grants are not intended to support original research. Rather, they are intended to support the synthesis of existing research knowledge and identify knowledge gaps.

Stream 2 (International): $10,000 to $78,000 for one year
