Introducing the Digital Content and Web Transformation (DCWT) Program
23 July 2026
The Digital Content and Web Transformation (DCWT) program is a multi-year initiative being led by the Office of Strategic Transformation and Delivery (OSTAD) and External Relations (ER). To better help faculty, staff and students find accurate information quickly and reliably, DCWT will reshape the U of A’s digital presence through three large-scale projects:
- Creation of a digital content governance framework.
- Launch of an enterprise intranet for faculty and staff.
- Complete redesign of the U of A external facing website.
Program rationale
The Digital Content and Web Transformation (DCWT) program will modernize the U of A’s digital presence to ensure students, faculty, staff and external audiences can access accurate, trustworthy and easy-to-find information.
The U of A website has not had a complete overhaul in more than 15 years, and over that period it has grown significantly without a comprehensive digital content governance framework. Today, it contains more than 100,000 pages, resulting in duplicated content, inconsistent information, unclear ownership and varying user experiences. This makes it difficult for users to find what they need, increases the effort required to maintain content and creates institutional risk when information becomes outdated or inaccurate. Separating content for internal and external audiences through creation of a faculty and staff intranet and redesign of the website will create a better experience for all users.
By reducing complexity, strengthening governance and improving the user experience, the DCWT program will help build trust in the university’s digital channels while enabling more effective communication, service delivery and engagement with the U of A community.
Next steps
Consultation is critical to carrying out projects of this scale and ensuring they work for the entire university. A cross-section of leaders from different units and roles, selected by the project steering committee, have been invited to join one of three Project Advisory Committees. Each committee will focus on one project within the larger DCWT program: governance, intranet and web redesign. Over the summer, we'll consult with leaders and web content owners before engaging with the broader university community starting this fall.
