Information for Students
Moving to Canvas
Students are at the heart of everything we do, and after hearing feedback through the Student Experience Action Plan, we're excited to announce the switch to a new Learning Management System (LMS), Canvas. Students use a LMS to manage their course materials, submit assignments, check their learning progress and more.
Canvas offers enhanced accessibility, an intuitive mobile-friendly design, personalized learning tools and more. This change aligns with the U of A’s commitment to innovative learning, academic flexibility and a student-centered environment.
As of August 15, 2025, eClass will be placed in read-only mode for all credit and non-credit courses. People will still have access to their course content in eClass (read-only) under the current archive policy. This allows for a phased transition to Canvas.
