Corporate Training

The Technology Training Centre offers computer training to multiple clients within the city of Edmonton, its surrounding area and throughout the province. Our clients range from large businesses with dedicated daily training to smaller ones with on-site training once a month. No matter the size of your business we are able to provide custom training and offer group rates on all of our public courses.

We understand that everyone may not need our standard courses and are willing to work with clients to identify and understand their specific needs and goals. We then together create a customized learning solution addressing budgets, schedules, and different learning styles.

Consulting Team

The Technology Training Centre's consulting services team was created by request from our clients to help them in their projects. We have project management experts on the team that will help from identifying what the concerns and challenges are, potential costs, work with teams to create solutions and set goals and measurements to ensure that successful completion is achieved. As part of the University of Alberta, the Technology Training Centre has extensive resources and experience to draw from for helping with unique projects.

Courses Available

Acrobat - Level 1

In this one-day course, learn how to make your documents universally accessible using Acrobat. In this course you will learn how to create a PDF file from documents created in a variety of different software programs, how to navigate a PDF file as well as the Acrobat interface, how to modify and edit PDF files, how to create links and bookmarks in PDF files and how to create a simple slideshow/presentation.

Acrobat - Level 2

In this one-day course, you will further develop your Acrobat skills by learning how to set security on your PDF files to control who can access your documents and control what they are able to do with them, create simple form fields for PDF documents and learn how to use the comment and review tools.

In this 2-day course, become familiar with the Illustrator environment while learning to use many tools and techniques to develop, modify and output scalable vector graphics for web, print and video.

In this 2-day course, learn the InDesign environment and the basics to create professional looking documents. Use tools, panels and techniques to develop, modify and output single and multipage documents for web and print.

InDesign II

In this 2-day course, apply new features and techniques that will help to automate the construction of complex multi-page documents so modifications may be done in an extremely efficient manner. They will also learn to integrate Photoshop, Illustrator and Bridge with InDesign to prepare, place and modify many different file formats for complete full circle workflow.

In this 2-day course, use basic and advanced editing tools to edit audio and video clips and create a complete digital movie. No previous experience is necessary!

Cascade - Level 1

In the Introduction to Cascade, you'll learn what a CMS is, and the specifics of how Cascade works. We will cover how to log-in, access, and interact with the Cascade interface, including the dashboard and basic widgets, navigating around your site(s), and accessing specific pages and content. From there, you'll learn how to add a page, and then use the Rich Text Editor to insert basic content and media to that page. This will also include adding links, lists, and images. While adding this content, we will also talk about basic web and content design concepts.

Cascade - Level 2

In the Cascade Intermediate course, you'll learn about the capabilities of Cascade as a tool, and what it allows for in terms of more complex page layouts. This will include a discussion on how the Cascade pages work, what rows and columns mean in the tool, and how to go beyond the standard single column layout. Additionally, you'll learn about the other components that Cascade contains, including carousels, accordions, teaser lists and more, and how to incorporate these into your page layout. Finally, we’ll discuss how to add and organize news stories into Cascade.

Apps

Google has many productivity and communications tools that are part of the G Suite. We’ll help you identify some of the more notable ones and learn how they work with your Google account:
Google Contacts – Create, Back Up, and Access your contacts via all your devices;
Google Chat – Reach out to your contacts and non-google users with Voice, Video, and Text communication that includes conferencing and Desktop sharing;
Google Keep – Quickly capture your notes & lists and get a reminder later at the right place or time. Speak a voice memo on the go and have it automatically transcribed. Share the memos, notes, and lists, with friends, family, and colleagues.

Google Calendar is a free web and mobile calendar that lets you keep track of your own events and share your calendars with others. It's the ideal tool for managing personal and professional schedules. It is both simple to use and very powerful. It also integrates in with your Google Gmail account, allowing you to seamlessly swap between important information and the events related to them.

Google Drive & Team Drive is unlike anything you have used before. Google Drive is an online storage tool allowing shared access to files and folders from any computer, for any number of users. Sheets Level 1

Google Sheets allows you to easily create and share spreadsheets with others from one place.In this course, we'll focus on key features to use within a shared spreadsheet: conditional formatting, data validation, drop-down menus within cells and data filtering. We will then teach you the basic unique features of Google spreadsheets such as: comments vs. notes, list view, custom change notifications, protecting sheets and assigning different access permissions to sheets within a spreadsheet. We will also include information on consideration when converting to and from Excel.

Sheets Level 2

Google Sheets is a powerful tool for manipulating data in real-time and from any device. Learn how to write functions, reference cells and ranges, and troubleshoot formulae. Then, discover ways of adjusting how the data is formatted and presented, while including hyperlinks, images, and visualizations alongside it. Finally, sort your data into different presentations, so you can always find the exact information you, or your collaborators, need to see.

Sites

This is an introductory course to Google Sites, as part of the Google Suite of Web-based tools. Students will become familiar with Google Sites, a powerful tool for building Internal Project Hubs, Team Sites, Public Websites, and many other web based information portals – all without active designer, programmer or IT help. Students will also learn how to create a Google site (including using a template or custom design), setting up multiple pages, navigation methods, managing pages, and how to publish the website.

Slides

The presentation software that comes with Google Drive is called Google Slides. It lets you collaborate with coworkers by creating slides in real time. You can insert text boxes, images, videos, shapes, arrows, equations, and callouts. You can rearrange slides, change presentation styles, and add speaker notes.

Access - Level 1

Students enrolled in this course will learn to identify the components of a database, open a table and find information stored in it, create and customize table designs, enter data and validate using input validation formulas, create relationships between tables to ensure data accuracy and deploy referential integrity. Other topics include creating forms for entering data into tables, creating, editing, running queries, creating, enhancing, and previewing reports, and importing/exporting data to and from various sources.

Access - Level 2

This course will take students further into the intermediate features of Access. Upon completion of this course students will understand inserting and deleting text into a document, enhancing tables by creating lookups, creating advanced forms by adding controls, subforms, calculations, and graphic images, and working with and creating web-based objects.

Excel - Level 1

New user? Start here. Learn how to create, save, open and close files, enter data, and complete basic edits using insert, delete, move and copy functions. Become familiar with row, column and cell formatting features, enhancing page layouts and simple formula creation concepts including the use of built-in functions.

Upon completion of the course, participants will be able to: organize, protect, and display data using various tools; use the IF function, create linking formulas, and manage links; manage and arrange multiple workbooks, insert and manage multiple worksheets within a workbook, and consolidate date from multiple sources; create and modify charts to present data effectively; customize charts to enhance their appearance; create, apply, and modify styles to format worksheets consistently and quickly; use comments, text boxes to annotate worksheets, and sparklines to highlight and explain data.

Excel - Dashboards

An introduction to Dashboards in Excel. In this 2-day course, apply tools and skills in Excel charting, Pivot Tables, interactive controls and simple macros to build dashboards that will allow you to automate tasks and create functional data visualization tools.

Excel - Data List Management

This one-day course is an introduction to Excel features and functions by learning how to add, edit, search for, and delete records in a data list using a form. Other topics covered include how to sort data in a data list, creating and working with text to columns, using various database functions to summarize data, and creating and working with pivot tables and pivot charts.

Excel - PowerPivot Level 1

Learn how to use PowerPivot, a free Excel add-on, to analyze large data sets in this new one-day course! You can use PowerPivot to set up and analyze relationships using data from various sources, including Excel, Access, .csv and other text based formats, filtering using SQL Assistant, DAX (Data Analysis Expressions) functions and more.

Excel - PowerPivot Level 2

This one-day course will continue a more in-depth learning of PowerPivot in Excel. Advanced DAX functions and an introduction to Power Query. The emphasis is on applying tools and skills to use PowerPivot to analyze large data sets and create interactive dashboards.

Excel - VBA Macros

In this 2-day course, learn the key concepts to build custom solutions with Excel VBA Macros. Become familiar with basic macro techniques for recording, writing, running and maintaining a macro. Particular attention is paid to the design and layout of a user form and controls in order to create a customized dialog box to simplify data entry, as well as learning to enhance source code with variables, constants, and logical operators.

Project - Level 1

In our introductory course, you'll learn the basics of Project, including how to create a new project, build and manage a task list and create dependencies, assign resources, and track progress and costs.

Project Level 2 builds on the concepts covered in Level 1. You'll learn how to customize tables, views and reports, work with templates, track and analyze project data, work with multiple projects and more.

SharePoint - Level 1

This course is for people who will need to access, add, and edit information in a SharePoint team site, and for those who may need to manage a team website. You will use, create, and edit content in a team website. You will also perform basic management of a team site. This course is presented through a mixture of instructor-led, group-paced, classroom-delivery learning model with structured hands-on activities.

SharePoint - Level 2

This course covers site administration, and is designed for staff who are responsible for managing SharePoint sites. The focus is on team sites, but we will also look briefly at communication sites. Participants should already have basic SharePoint skills such as working with lists and libraries. *Please note that this course does not address the SharePoint Admin Center, administration of site collections, or any other functions that would normally be handled by IT tech professionals.

Visio - Level 1

In this course participants will learn how to use Visio to create drawings. We will focus on flowcharts but will also explore Visio’s organization chart tools and will touch on floor layouts. Participants will learn how to build a drawing using the three primary components: shapes, text, and connectors. Finally, participants will learn the options available for formatting pages and printing their charts.

Visio - Level 2

In this course participants will expand their Visio skills by learning Visio’s advanced features. Stencils and Templates can streamline the creation of drawings. Layers can make it easier to work with complex drawings that contain a lot of shapes. Shape Behavior and Shape Operations can customize the way shapes work or look. Custom Fields allow you to capture data in drawing shapes. By the end of the course, participants will understand and be able to use all of these features of Visio.

Word - Level 1

Designed for new users, this course will familiarize students with the basics of the application. Students will learn how to use the command menus, create/save documents, edit and format text and paragraphs, layout pages, and print documents. Time will also be spent looking at the additional word features such as templates, spell checking, and AutoCorrect.

Word - Level 2

Designed for students with intermediate experience in Word, this course will cover creating, modifying tables using form features. Students will have an opportunity to learn how to use the Mail Merge feature to create letters, envelopes and labels as well as learning how to customize styles and work with the 'styles library'. Students will work with 'quick parts' to create a library of different galleries. For example, headers, footers, tables and other Word features. Students will also become more efficient with templates: creating, editing and customizing.
